This is the first question we are asked when telling someone we are moving. The answer: multi-layered. Because this decision wasn’t made overnight (as some may think 😉), it cannot be briefly summarized. Being a lover of details, I want to share the little and big ways the Lord has been working. In the days ahead, I will unwrap how the last 7 years have brought us to this place.
LET’S GO!
Throughout my childhood, we moved. A lot. Change was woven through me from as early as I can recall (we’ll save that for another day!). Change brought opportunity for new experiences and to meet new people - change also brought adventure.
Over our 15 year marriage, Bryan and I have shared a love of exploration. Dreaming of ways and places to seek adventure. We travel to different states & our immediate thought is, “could we live here?” Instead of hitting up the usual tourist spots, we prefer to explore the heart of communities, research the real estate, job market, which community would best fit “us” - and the determining factor always trims down to: What type of outdoor adventure can we enjoy in this place? Is there enough like-minded people to be in community with? Is there a need and purpose in which we can meet and serve here?
In September 2019, we made a quick 48 hour trip to the PNW. Through Seattle up to Bellingham, WA. We fell in love. The majestic trees, the fresh air, the water (rain included). This felt like us. This made our hearts jump. This wasn’t our initial, practical response we typically had when visiting new places. This time, our hearts led way. This is the trip we began to dream big.
The foundation had been laid. We would love to head west. Pacific Northwest to be exact.
We arrived back in OKC at the end of September 2019 & in the midst of what would have been the start of deep prayer and discussion for exploring possibilities to find a way to live in the PNW…the bottom fell out.
Our newly realized dream was put on pause.
